This October, be sure you don’t miss out on the local tourism board’s newest event: SHIFT 2013. An annual event to be held October 11-13, SHIFT’s goal is to raise awareness for conservation in Jackson and its surrounding areas, while at the same time promoting the local economy in the traditionally slow autumn season. This year, events will feature food and wine tasting, film presentations, and art demonstrations, among others.
Friday, October 11, stop by the Center for the Arts for local food and beverage prepared by the town’s leading chefs. Take part in the food preparation demonstrations, too, and learn how to butcher a pig, make your own cheese, and ferment alcohol. Hotel Terra’s renowned restaurant Osteria will be there serving up its finest. Best thing at this event? All ingredients come from local farmers and are totally 100% organic.
Saturday, October 12, be sure to catch a morning of festivities in George Washington Memorial Park at 9:00am and make a difference to your local environment. Enjoy locally roasted coffee and freshly-baked pastries before embarking on a day of conservation-centered community service projects in the town of Jackson.
After a hard day of environmental service, relax at Jackson’s Pink Garter Theater for a night of ground-breaking documentaries in this year’s “Adventure, Inspired” series. This year’s top premiere is DEEP: The Story of Skiing and The Future of Snow. This amazing and unreleased documentary details the potential long-term effects of global warming on skiers and their beloved sport. Other films will be shown as well, including Steps: The Ride Greener Film, Chasing Water, and Return to the Tepuis, among others. Tickets are $15.
Still not had enough? Stick around for “Shift 20/20” at the National Museum of Wildlife Art on Sunday night. The presentation will utilize a Japanese-style art form to present 20 images in 20 seconds in multiple exhibitions, all detailing the lives of conservation advocates, farmers, artists, and other Jackson Hole residents.
